Recently The Daily Times, a Pakistani English Daily, had an article citing the Indian National Security Advisor’s(NSA) view on the progress of Indo-Pak peace process. That article contained a picture of former Indian president Mr. K. R. Narayanan. I kept struggling for a while trying to figure out how the former President was involved in [...]

A widely circulated email supposedly originating from the CEO of Pakistan’s leading daily Dawn, Hameed Haroon, talks about how the Pakistani administration infringes on the freedom of press. More details here and here.
Not that this was not known before. It was kind of like an open secret worthy of being given a royal ignore by [...]

While the newspapers are busy speculating about the culprits behind the Samjhauta express blasts, and sometimes giving due coverage to politico soundbytes, news of value happens to be a rare commodity.
But sometimes one does get lucky. I happened to come across this on Rediff:
“Tightening security measures at the Old Delhi Railway Station, Railways has decided [...]

Sting operations, that helped take the news media revolution in India to new heights, have now started happening in Pakistan(tip Ayesha). Karachi Metblogs has a few posts(1,2,3) about a show, Gumnaam, produced by GeoTV, that has started using the sting op way to expose the uglier side of the society. The description of the show, [...]

It’s been a while since Shilpa Shetty won the Celebrity Big brother title. I hoped ‘Thank God! Finally it’s come to an end’. But no! The media is relentless! It’s sincerely following it up!
Would you MSM guys give me a break?
You were kind enough to get into the nitty gritty of the whole Shilpa [...]

Barack Obama’s stint with Islam during his childhood has apparently become a major political issue in the US. Allegations(video) and refutations(video) are floating around in the media. I can almost picture Obama yelling out ‘Hey! I’m Obama not Osama!’
US is a melting pot; it’s the least xenophobic of all nations, no doubt about that. But [...]

The ‘dork media’ category has been gathering dust. Time to pay a visit to this baby.
We often crib about our Desi Dork Media, affectionately called as DDM. However, the American media is not far behind. A good example of which is the recent interview of Bill Clinton by Chris Wallace of the Fox network, [...]

The recently enacted Right to Information Act(RTI), an Indian equivalent of the Freedom of Information Act that US has, never recieved the necessary push from the mainstream media. We did get to hear RTI related success stories every now and then, but never something that would pave the way for a revolution as far as [...]

MidDay, a Mumbai based daily, is carrying a letter sent by “Forum against obscenity”, that is protesting against alleged obscenity being depicted in the newspaper. The newspaper has responded publicly to the same in the form of an article, asking its readers to voice their opinions on the matter.
I liked MidDay’s approach. I hope it [...]

Rajdeep Sardesai, a prominent Indian journalist, writes about the changing face of Indian journalism, discussing its merits and demerits.
While we are still on Indian journalism, Sepia Mutiny points out the sordid state of Slimes of India(Times of India) website, while Chetan Kunte (link via desipundit) suggests ways to improve the same.

OK, this time not by the Indian media, but by one of the most respected English dailies of Pakistan, The Dawn. Khalid Hasan reports:
One of the “unthinkables” in journalism is to flout an embargo, but that was exactly what two Pakistani newspapers did when they ignored a White House embargo and went ahead with the [...]

Brit bloggers are now hitting back at journalists who think composing an article is just about google-cut-paste. Behold the press plagiarist of the year award. Also check out the BBC feature.
With the Indian MSM indulging in plagiarism as well, I think desi bloggers ought to have their own version of these awards.

A BBC article titled “Indecency guide for tourists to India” seems to have created some noise in the Indian blogosphere. The article starts with the following lines:
Do not hug or kiss in public – even when meeting at stations and airports – and do not smoke or consume alcohol publicly either. These are some of the [...]
