Deja vu

Posted by: BD on: August 20, 2007

It seems wordpress.com was blocked in Turkey. Almost seems like a page out of history.

Thanks to RTI we came to know how the Government blocks websites in India.

Update:

Official reaction from wordpress.com regarding the ban in Turkey.

The letter mentioned in the above link contains the list of blogs that led to a Turkish court order to bring down the entire wordpress.com domain in Turkey.

Go have a look at these blogs before they are taken down!

These blogs have now gotten more publicity because of the entire censorship process. What an irony :D

Censorship is such a dangerous path, and clearly against the first amendment in the United States Constitution here in the US. In America, you can say *almost* anything, exceptions being saying you’re going to kill the president and yelling “FIRE!” in a crowded theater. People do take advantage of this freedom, often in America, by insulting others with hate speech, but at present I see no way around this, as it is critically important for people to be able to criticize the government without negative consequences for them.

It’s good to hear from you BD. Keep the faith.
