The recently enacted Right to Information Act(RTI), an Indian equivalent of the Freedom of Information Act that US has, never recieved the necessary push from the mainstream media. We did get to hear RTI related success stories every now and then, but never something that would pave the way for a revolution as far as transparency in public affairs is concerned.
Better late than never, as they say. Leading media houses, NDTV and IBN, now have a dedicated section for RTI. Probably citizen activism like the Chennai RTI initiative made the mainstream media realize their responsibility.
